I blame it on becoming a teacher and having every minute taken with the job. Today though I did want to share what a great year 2013 was because it was a very significant year for me. So let's start with January!<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyvzDpzLprDGe7Mut5jwfg2yIS5PWa145TObsoEviPQ4QbNqFGY-57gyF1j64ZhjOpLAnjrITXBxkb7m6phaU2H6fsb3tW99TtGggFJjJdlb7M8vWCD3CzshBXzEiAecxK-Zeu7BpxkmM/s1600/IMG_2399.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" class="CSS_LIGHTBOX_SCALED_IMAGE_IMG" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyvzDpzLprDGe7Mut5jwfg2yIS5PWa145TObsoEviPQ4QbNqFGY-57gyF1j64ZhjOpLAnjrITXBxkb7m6phaU2H6fsb3tW99TtGggFJjJdlb7M8vWCD3CzshBXzEiAecxK-Zeu7BpxkmM/s320/IMG_2399.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ashton (my dear friend) and I at the Idaho Falls temple!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
January: At the very first of the month I went and saw my dear friend and her family. It was the very best experience. I loved every minute of my trip to Idaho. I actually went on a second date with someone and got my heart broken for the first time. I started student teaching which I loved and hated on a daily basis. I was in a car accident which involved me hitting black ice, circling around 4 lanes of freeway traffic, not hitting anything by the time I stopped, and then being hit. It was my first ticket, ever!<br />
<br />
February: I found out I was someones hero. Saydee Bowen called me her hero and wrote about me for a class assignment. It touched me very deeply and the two of us have become quite close. I got to babysit her and her wonderful siblings for Valentines day. It was the best way I could have spent my Valentines! <br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ryan and I the day we graduated</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
March: Another month of substitute teaching went by. And by the end of the month I was into a permanent subbing job for an art teacher. I flew to my second cousins wedding and had a blast with lots of my family. Not only did I get to see extended family but I also got to spend time with Todd and Deedra who made the trip to Utah to see us all. We had a great time together. I turned 26, had a birthday lunch with my cousins, and Eloise got me a cake!<br />
<br />
April: After <span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">172
credit hours, two majors and a minor, six apartments, 23 roommates, too
many late nights and early morning to count, tons of new friends, and
just as many new opportunities, I graduated from Brigham Young University! It was a very exciting day not only for me but also for my brother Ryan. We graduated on the same day. It took awhile to accomplish this goal but I did it and it was well worth it. </span><br />
<br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">May: On the 15th of this month I learned I was going to be a kindergarten teacher. To say I was ecstatic is an understatement. I got a job with Jordan School District teaching Kindergarten at Elk Meadows Elementary. I finished up my permanent sub job and started working at a Day Care in Lehi. </span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Me and some of my favorite students from MAT Camp</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">June: Michele and John came to Wyoming for the summer! I spent every single weekend with them except for the ones where they went to New York. It was a very full summer full of concerts, Leatherbys, traveling, playing with Anna, and just hanging out with the Hustedt's. </span><br />
<br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">July: This month brought another year of MAT Camp! It is still my favorite summer activity. I taught Duct Tape Art, Recycled Crafts, Beading, Science, Copy Cat Art, and Let's Get Messy. I dressed up like Little Red Riding Hood and danced with the cutest wolf for the Talent Show. I was voted as the second favorite teacher at camp and bested by a Broadway Star. </span><br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}"><br /></span>
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">August: Moving into both house and classroom took up the majority of this month. I started my teaching contract and got to meet my cute students. I had 23 students in the morning class and 26 students in the afternoon. I went to tons of meetings and put in many hours at school. I also moved to Draper to be closer to my school!</span><br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}"><br /></span>
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">September: I started teaching my awesome students. We celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day and really got to know each other. I wore a smile almost everyday even when it was a bad day. I went to a lot more meetings and worked hard to be the best teacher I could be. I got asked interesting questions like "Is my skin blonde?" </span><br />
<br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">October: The first weekend of the month was my mission reunion and even though the reunion wasn't what I thought it would be, seeing one of my favorite companions was a definite highlight of my year. Sister Walton spent the weekend with me and we had so much fun! We talked, cried, and laughed together. I dressed up as an owl for Halloween and spent the evening with Brian and Eloise's cute children. </span><br />
<br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">November: Thanksgiving meant a break from school which I needed. I put in about 10 hours a day and so I was happy to sleep in for a few days. I got to have a sleep over with Heidi's girls which made us all very happy. I had Thanksgiving dinner with the Holman family and it was one of the best </span><span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">Thanksgivings I have ever had. </span><br />

<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">December: I felt like this was a month that would never end, not that I wanted it to. I got spoiled by my wonderful students who were very kind to me. I spent time with my family. Todd and Deedra were here for two weeks before they moved to Germany. I got to see a live nativity. I helped celebrate my mom's birthday. I made 50 owl ornaments for my students, threw my first Polar Express Party, and helped my students perform for their parents. I survived having all 50 students in my room at one time. My favorite gift this year was a picture my mom had framed for me.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">Of course this is just a summery of what happened this year. My life is a good and happy one. And one I am so glad I am living. Here is to 2014 and all the memories that will be made. </span><br />

I wish I would have kept a log of the miles I have gone. I started the summer by getting a job at a Daycare. It was the hardest job I have done to date, not counting the three days of school I have been in. I worked with infants to children who were 12. I worked 10 hour days of 6 hour days. I loved eating rice pudding and the other great food at the center. I cried for my cute kids who were left for 10 hours a day or more. I was frustrated with some of their behaviors and rejoiced with them when their behaviors were great! All in all I loved the kids and loved my coworkers and boss!<br />
Michele, John, and Anna were here for the summer. I spent ever weekend with them and was so thankful that I did. One day Anna spent a few hours with me. We went swimming, feed the ducks, and played in my apartment. It was so fun! Her laughter is priceless. With all of us, we went to Wyoming three times, ate Leatherby's ice-cream, went to Wheeler Farm, went to a wedding, ate good food, spent time with John's family, went shopping, and laughed! Oh, what fun it was to have them here for the summer. <br />
I taught at MAT camp again this summer. It was probably my favorite year. I only took one picture and the video that was taken of my talent got erased:( I danced in my Little Red Riding Hood costume with a friend who is 5 years old. He was dressed as a wolf. The Blackham Family Band sang "Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf tried to eat me, I pulled his tail, and then we had a picnic. I loved the staff this year and made a lot of new friends. I spent the week with Michele and cherished every moment. I love camp and was so glad I got to go! <br />
I also spent time with Ryan, Sam, Marley and Nolan. They sure bring a lot of love to my life. And I also spent time with my Kirstee, Makadee, and my cousin Brian's family. Brian's wife Eloise and I took the kids to Lagoon on the 24th of July for Broox' birthday! I don't say it's the end of the summer until after Labor Day, so here is to another week a summer! And of course, the few pictures I took this summer:<br />

I couldn't even remember applying for this job. The next Monday I meet with the principal and the two Kindergarten teachers at the school. And two and a half weeks after that I received another call to tell me the job was mine. For every teacher job there is, there are about 250 applicants. So just to get a call is awesome but to get the job is miraculous. As soon as I got off the phone with my new principal I called my mom. I told her that I needed her help because I wanted to learn how to be the greatest Kindergarten teacher in the world (not to surpass her though). She couldn't understand me because I was crying. She thought I didn't get the job because of all the tears. But she started crying to when she could understand.<br />
So there you have it folks! I am the newest teacher at Elk Meadows Elementary in South Jordan. To describe my feelings I would say; EXCITED, happy, nervous, anxious, overwhelmed, supported, BLESSED, and loved. I started last Wednesday. Tomorrow I start testing all 50 of my students and on September 4th, I start to teach. Every morning I wink at myself in the mirror and say "Those students of mine are so lucky!" Soon to come are pictures of my room (if I ever get it looking like I want to) and pictures of me on the First Day, well actually second day since I have already been to Kindergarten, of school!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-31809586154540104122013-03-17T09:50:00.000-07:002013-03-17T09:50:03.768-07:00Family<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This last week Todd and Deedra were in town. It was fun to have them here and being able to hang out with them. Last Sunday, we all had dinner at Mom and Dad's. Deedra then taught a beautiful lesson on Keeping the Commandments for Family Home Evening. Afterwards we enjoyed each others company. We did get a few pictures of all the grandkids as we haven't gotten one yet with little Nolan. </div>

Before Christmas, Mom bought me an early present for my trip up to Seattle. Of course it was a book. I had never read one of my Mother's and Grandmother's favorite books, <i>The Secret Garden.</i> At first I wasn't very into the book but soon it spread its magic over me. I loved every minute of this book. What a sweet and enduring story! I want to share one of my favorite parts:<br />
"...Thoughts- just mere thoughts- are as powerful as electric batteries-as good for one as sunlight is, or as bad for one as poison. To let a sad thought or a bad one get into your mind is as dangerous as letting a scarlet fever germ get into you body. If you let it stay there after it has got in, you may never get over it as long as you live."<br />
Beautiful, eloquent, and inspiring. I understand why my grandmother and mother love it so much. I want to read it all over again and I just finished it.<br />
P.S. After reading this book, I had the strange desire to go weed a garden. <br />

This last weekend I took care of my cousin's children while they were away. They have five children ranging from 12 to almost 1. I was so excited to go as, well they are children and they are AWESOME!!! We made lava lamps, ate pizza, did chocolate fondue, watched the Muppets, painted my fingernails, ate cereal, played on my computer, and just goofed around. I haven't been around their baby a lot so we were a bit nervous about how she would respond. Before my cousin and his wife left, she crawled over to me and sat in my lap. She was so fun to be around and such a good baby. The experience was wonderful and I can not wait to go back up to see them. They make my life complete. I love them and am so thankful that I got to be with them this weekend!<br />

Who is your hero? First we must know what a hero is to be able to answer this question. I asked my cousin's little girl this weekend and she told me a hero is someone you look up to. Someone who is a good influence on the world and someone you want to be like when you grow up. I have never thought of myself as a hero, but have thought a lot about who my personal heros. So has my cousin's children. At school they were asked to write about their hero. The older children of this family picked Henry Ford and Jim Henson, people who I would classify as a hero. But this is what the oldest daughter wrote: My hero is my aunt Jody because she is so nice. I lover her so much. She takes time to do fun things with me. Her mother said she tried to get her to choose her grandmother's or an aunt but she wouldn't have it because her favorite hero is me. I was so touched. Just when you feel insignificant, someone makes sure you know you are her hero! I am talking about Experience Folger, one of my relatives. Yes her name was Experience and her sisters name was Bathsheba. And yesterday these two sisters along with four other siblings were sealed to their parents. I have been doing family history lately. Yesterday I went to the temple with a friend and we completed my whole stack of names that needed to be sealed. It was beautiful. Some of these relatives have waited many, many years for their temple work to be finished. And many more are still waiting. So I will continue to find those that need it done. And I will continue to be the Lord's servant by going to the temple to finish the work.<br />
P.S. If anyone reads this and would like to help, I have names that need to be done!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-27555534341049185932013-02-03T07:42:00.001-08:002013-02-03T07:42:06.312-08:00My favorite Christmas PresentWhile I was student teaching this last year, I didn't have a job. It was just too much for me to balance. So I have been short on money lately. Thanks to my amazing family I am still eating and living under a solid roof. Gas is the hardest thing to pay. I find I am always running on close to empty before I put a few more dollars in the tank. On Christmas Eve I had many errands to run. I had some money but I was headed to Idaho soon after the holiday's and needed to save every bit so that if something came up on the trip I would be okay. I was forced to go to the gas station and knew that what would happen would happen. As I pulled in their was a whole lot of people standing around. It was snowing so I figured they were pumping gas so you didn't have to get out of your car. Imagine my surprise when they asked if I wanted free gas. I started crying and finally realized that they were pumping gas and my car was still on. Soon I was given a donut and hot chocolate while I waited for my tank to be filled. I cannot express my gratitude to those lovely people. That is Christmas and it is Christ's way of life. Thank you kind strangers. Your gift to me was my favorite!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-79877792503546368402013-02-03T07:36:00.002-08:002013-02-03T07:36:54.620-08:00The 13th Day of Christmas<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I just finished reading the sweetest Christmas book. I know, I am a little behind. I was given the book by a dear friend and have been reading it slowly. I finished on Friday with tears in my eyes. I am not going to tell you all the story because I think everyone should read this book. It has changed how I look at Christmas. Next year will be so different!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-62588357260889537952013-02-03T07:31:00.001-08:002013-02-03T07:31:53.385-08:00Snow, Blows!When I say snow, blows I mean that it isn't very fun! We have had a pretty substantial winter here in Utah. For most of January there was not blue skies to be seen just yucky grey and lots of snow. I have been fine with it though deciding to be happy that we were getting moisture. But last Wednesday made me rethink this happy part. I was driving to another sub job, this time at my mom's school. I had been on the freeway for maybe a minute when I hit a patch of black ice and slush. It was blizzarding so I was only going about 40 miles an hour. Once I hit the ice I spun across several lanes on the freeway. Blessed beyond words I didn't hit anything. I came to a stop by the edge of the road and knew I needed to move fast. But before I could even have the thought to move, a car hit my right passenger side door. Blessed once again, the girl that hit me wasn't hurt and neither was her car. I was rattled but not injured. I don't have the words to express my gratitude to my Heavenly Father for protecting us both. My car is in the hospital but I am not. It was scary but I know that my Savior was with me the whole time. <br />
So even though the snow blows, it will soon all go away and spring will come! I can't wait!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-17069950377937637422013-01-21T07:37:00.005-08:002013-01-21T11:53:39.671-08:00The Year in Review 2012<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Is it too late to do this? It's my blog and I say it isn't! So here we go, the year 2012 in review!<br />

<span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">January:</span> My family has three birthday's in January. Deedra is our first birthday and boy how I wish I could spend it with her. It has been a few years since we were able to do that but I still love her all the same. We went to Buca DiBeppo's for Marley and Sara's birthday and had a blast. I was still living with Marie at the time and I am sure we ate lots at the Korean Place and watch movies. I am pretty sure this was the month I got sat by myself at the single table at a family party. This was also the month that I got to meet my favorite, Anna May. All of Uncle Dean's family was in town and Ryan and Sam took their family pictures. It was so fun to all be together!<br />

<span style="color: red; font-size: large;">February:</span> A month full of love and family. Todd and Deedra came to town! They sat in my drive way at 2 in the morning pondering on if they should wake me when they first pulled into town. Hunter had arrived a few days before his parents and I got to babysit him for the weekend. We built a fort, played with Marley, and listened to Uncle Ryan's stories. Hunter was my Valentine's date and the next guy has very big shoes to fill! Marie and I had Korean with Todd and Deedra. It was soooooo tasty. They were here ultimately for Scott and Sara's wedding which was a beautiful day. We all looked so lovely for the big day and we were thankful that all went as planned. I was also so happy to have family around at the wedding. I went to two bridal showers this month including one that I was in charge of! <br />

<span style="color: #6aa84f; font-size: large;">March: </span>Happy Golden Birthday to Me!!! This is what was shouted to me as I walked into my surprise birthday party. Marie and Sam planned it all out and it was a lot of fun. It was my golden birthday because I turned 25 on the 25th! The party was decked in gold and so was some of the food. This was also the year I pierced my ears. And let me tell you, I thought it was the most painful thing I have yet to do. Kirstee held my hand though and I love having them pierced now. Uncle Brent and Aunt Vicki were in town this month because they left for their mission to Canada! It was so fun to have a get together with everyone. <br />

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-size: large;">May:</span> I took a surprise trip out to see Todd and Deedra. I don't know who was more excited as I think most of us were crying when we saw each other. S'mores every night, hammock swinging, reading Harry Potter, going to the zoo and to museums, and playing games with the family pretty much sums up my whole trip. It was a dream. Todd and Deedra also came to Utah for another wedding. It was fun to celebrate Todd's birthday together.<br />

I wanted to scan all the picture I have of Kirstee </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but can't figure out my scanner. So this will have to do!</div>
Yesterday as I drove my sweet little friends home from a big sleepover, Kirstee told me that she invited her best friend to her birthday party. I said "You already told me about the girl across the street that has the same birthday as you." She looked at me funny and said "You are my best friend Jody!" I almost cried. She is such a sweetheart. As her friends arrived, they all knew me as Kirstee's best friend. <br />
Kirstee is my cousins little girl. Since she was little we have always been tight. I remember her whispering secrets to me under the cover of her bed when she was 2 or 3 years old. I remember her riding in my car since she was that little or even smaller. I can still remember taking her out camping with all the Bowen family at the reunion. And I can still see her smiling face at the bottom of the escalator when I got home from my mission. I remember the tea parties at every photo shoot we went to. I have pictures of her from a small baby to now. (By the way, your picture and Makadee's are the only pictures in my wallet right now!) I remember donuts, cookies, cupcakes, and now junk food from her 10th birthday party. I can't believe it's been 10 years because I swear that yesterday I remember holding her in my arms for the very first time. I am so glad that she calls me her best friend, because she is my best friend as well. I love my Kirstee Mae more than words can say! <br />

I was their first visitor they have had since being married. It was so nice to see their cute little house and do so many fun things with them. They were so good to me while I was there. Scott picked me up for the airport in his awesomely cool chef outfit because he had just gotten off of school. Then he took me back to his school to get the full tour. I felt like I was behind the scenes of Master Chef or something. It was really cool. We then drove to downton Seattle, which was beautiful, to pick up Sara. Little did I know that Sara works in the mall:) <br />

We made gingerbread houses, watched Christmas movies, ate artichokes with mayonaise, saw the Space Needle, feed the homeless, visited some of Scott and Sara's friends, rode the tram, finally got to ride a carousal, saw the zoo lights, learned that Santa's reindeer really are women, drove to Utah, and ate super good food at pretty much every meal. It was so fun, every minute of it! Scott and Sara know how to show you the high life. Thanks for being such a gracious host and hostess. The lessons I have learned in the last week are so important, I wanted this to be my first post of the new year. Here is what I wrote:<br />
Right now I am sitting next to a warm fireplace in Idaho Falls. I was invited by a very dear friend to come visit her and her family. This dear friend has been a blessing in my life for several years now. I met her at BYU while I was working with the volleyball team. After I had finished my first year of college, I moved in with Ashton. I learned quite a bit about life and the way I wanted to live. Ashton was creative, organized, and productive with her time. She didn't waste a moment of her time because she was using it wisely to study both secular and spiritual things, giving, and improving herself. I will never forget the spirit that encompassed Ashton. And the first memory I have of her and her husband as a newly married couple is one that I have always dreamed would be my own. I wasn't able to go to their reception and so delivered their gift late. I had set up to drop the present off at their apartment. I remember walking into the small space and feeling the spirit immediately. After about a week of marriage, Ashton and her husband, Drew, had the spirit in their home. It has been a few years and Ashton now has two beautiful children. We talk every once in awhile. She has a real natural ability to always come when I need her the most. A month or so ago she called and asked if I would like to come visit her as she was visiting her family in Idaho. I won't lie, I was nervous to go visit a family that I didn't really know. But I knew if they were anything like Ashton I would be comfortable. Once again I walked into a home filled with the spirit. I have been watching throughout my visit and although it hasn't been a long visit I have noticed, once again, quite a bit about life and the way I want to live my life. As I walked into the Hansen home, love and laughter enveloped me. Many people were gathered at their house even though many had left before I even arrived. Everyone was laughing and having the time of their lives. With this atmosphere, peace and security were felt. No one was loud or boisterous but all were softly concerned for one another. I told Ashton that I just wanted to take notes on her family because they seemed like the heaven on earth that we are promised by the Savior himself. <br />
I soon began asking myself the question of how has this family accomplished this feeling of love and heaven. I saw a mother who knew her calling as a mother was more than performing motherly duties but as an extension of the Savior's mission on earth. I saw children that love the gospel and say personal prayers everyday. I saw siblings that truly enjoyed each other's company. I saw a father who took his priesthoods duties farther than his Sunday worship. I saw a house of love. This family has striven to act as the Savior would in every situation. I loved seeing the pictures of their family and friends that had been over to celebrate the holidays with them, on their cupboards. I was inspired as every time we walked out the door we were told we were beautiful, smart, and that we could do anything we wanted to do. After we would say prayers with the family every night we were reminded that we were loved. This house was not all talk though, as almost every decoration in the home reminded me of our Heavenly Father and our divine purpose here on earth. <br />
I was so deeply touched by my visit and felt so strengthened by the spirit. I hope next time I will have more time with this amazing family. Thanks to the Hansens for a great start to the new year!<br />

<div class="" style="background-color: #f9f6ed; border: 0px; color: #2f393a; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 20px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" uri="/scriptures/bofm/alma/55.32">

<div>
I remember a companion reading this to a family as a spiritual thought at the end of a dinner we had had. I thought it was so very random, but decided to wait and hear what she had to say about the scripture. After reading the scripture she explained that the Lamanites and Nephites were at war at this time. Both sides had taken prisoners. The Lamanites wanted to exchange prisoners but were unwilling to let them go after the Nephite ruler put forth some restrictions. So they decided to go about getting the Nephite prisoners another way. They decide to poison the Lamanite guards and get them drunk all at the same time. Then they would sneak out their prisoners from the Lamanites. They succeeded. Soon the Lamanites thought they would try the same tactic on the Nephites. But the Nephites were smart and didn't partake of the wine the Lamanites were trying to poison them with. </div>
<div>
After sharing an explanation of the story, my companion finished with these words. She said that the Nephites knew the wine was bad for both sides of the war. What are some things that are bad for all of us? If we are ever caught saying, "Well, I would watch it but I would never let my children watch it," we probably shouldn't watch it ourselves. If it is bad for our children, then isn't it bad for us as well. </div>
<div>
I thought this was so interesting and I hope to live more by this principle. I want to do only what is good for all! </div>

These three are in heaven when they are together! </div>

(Makadee, Kirstee, and Marley)</div>
Day 2: I am currently student teaching. I am so thankful for those that have mentored me during this time. I started my student teaching in a second grade classroom in the Provo School District. My lead teacher was awesome and so were my supervisors. I am now teaching in a Kindergarten classroom in Nebo School District. I love my lead teacher. She is so great to me. I am doing really well in my teaching and am starting to really love it. <br />
Day 3: I am so grateful for my family including my extended family. Yesterday Marley and I went and helped at Kirstee's birthday party. As Kirstee's friends arrived she introduced me as her BFF. It was so cute. She tells me all the time that I am her best friend and she is truly mine. It was so fun to talk with Heidi, watch the girls giggle with cute little Marley, and see the joy of having good relationships. It was such a good day. Thanks to Heidi and Kirstee for letting us come to the party. (More to come about this event in a later post)<br />
Day 4: Today I am grateful for the scriptures. At the beginning of this school year I was really struggling. I didn't know if I wanted to be a teacher anymore. I felt inadequate. For the first time I can remember I wasn't finding joy in teaching. I was teaching in a way that I don't feel is right for children but if I taught a different way than I would be docked on my observation scores. Life was not pleasant. One Saturday I decided to take time out and go to a BYU football game with a friend. The football tickets we have are right next to one of my favorite people. They live down the street from us and she was my young womens leader. She teaches 5th grade. I poured my heart out to her about my teaching experience. Immediately she asked if I was reading my scriptures. I sheepishly admitted that I was not. She told me I needed to start. She said that I couldn't have the Holy Ghost to lead me if I didn't invite him. So I started reading everyday. It is wonderful how everything changed. School became a delight and so did teaching. I am doing well and I know it is because I have been reading in my scriptures! <br />

Last year I made it about half way through the month and this year I commit to do better. Today I am thankful for my brother, Ryan, his wife, Sam, and Marley, their adorable daughter. Thank you for the meals, the many trips out for treats, folding my laundry, and making sure I am warm at night! I love living with you and am looking forward to many more happy, happy days here at your home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!<br />
P.S. I am also looking forward to holding the baby when he finally decides to make his grand entry into the world!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-6843571440994818962012-09-25T21:12:00.001-07:002012-09-25T21:12:38.451-07:00As of late...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A picture of Marley for no reason but to enjoy her cuteness!</div>
I feel that it has been forever since I last posted, come to think of it I can't remember even when it was:) I thought I would a quick update tonight since I finished early with lesson plans. I am in my last semester at BYU! You read that correctly, this girl is finally going to be done. That means that this semester I am Student Teaching. I am at an Elementary School in Provo. I am teaching second grade with a great mentor teacher. And I am loving my students!! They are so cute, especially when they spell. Some of my favorites are: ber teckt (protect), Ame licka (America), icsided (excited), gap these (capris), mee dee am (medium) and cunch tree (country). Today I was told I am robot arms because they are so skinny. My mentor teacher was asked how he gets his pants so black! They surely make me laugh each day. My favorite days are Tuesdays because I get to go out to recess with my kidlets. We play tag or some weird form of it. I get to hear a thousand stories and about all the pairs of shoes my one student has. They always hold my hand as we walk out to recess. I am sad to leave at the end of the day but also ready for some rest. This is my life for now. There are a lot of things unanswered right now like what I will do after this adventure is done or how will I pay for it all. But we are leaving it in the Lord's hands. He knows best anyways! For now we will play tag and hold hands!All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-89754791045782727242012-08-21T06:36:00.001-07:002012-08-21T06:36:08.368-07:00The One and Only Ivan - Official Book Trailer<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="270" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UtPdqV2crQ0?fs=1" width="480"></iframe><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">I recently read this book. I loved it! It was a fast read but one that I will never forget. It is based on true events but of course is fiction since the Gorilla talks throughout the whole book. This book has heart where as I feel a lot of books don't. It's a book I enjoyed but one I am sure children will enjoy as well!</div>All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-59705725448150563082012-08-13T19:58:00.000-07:002012-08-14T09:36:44.474-07:00An EPIC journey<div style="text-align: center;">
I took an epic journey this summer. It was one of the very best I have ever been on. I gained many new friends, tasted new treats, learn new words, learned how to be brave, and learned that the power of love is the most powerful thing we have. I never wanted to take this journey, thinking it was too dark and scary. But with the help of some really great friends I made it. This is not to say their were times I was angry. Times were I cried and thought life was so unjust. Times when I just didn't understand. Times when I didn't know if I could carry on. But I did! I finished my journey better than I started. I am so glad I took this journey and in the end I understood it all! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You ask who these friends were? What were these special treats I ate? Where was I? What made me angry, sad, happy? Well, let me list the friends that were involved: Marie, who started it all; Harry Potter, he taught me to do what is right not what is easy; Hermione Granger, who taught me to always read; Ron Weasley, who always let me come over to the Burrow; The Weasley Family, who made me laugh and cry, who held my hand when I was scared, and Mrs. Weasley, who always knew where everyone was; Sirius Black; Remus and Tonks; Luna; Neville; Dumbledore; and Snape, who taught me to not judge people for you never know their motives. The special treats I ate were Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean. We can thank Marie for the vomit flavor I got to taste! While on my journey I visited Hogwarts, Privet Drive, the Burrow, Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and Weasley Wizard Wheezes. I even got to go to a few Quidditch Games. I was mad, happy, and sad as my friends gave their all to defeat the Dark Lord.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't believe I didn't take this journey sooner. This summer was my first time venturing into Potter Land and know I understand why people love it so much! I thought the books were great. I have loved the movies as well! Thank you Marie for inviting me to ride the Hogwart's Express and experience one of my favorite journeys I have taken! I have become a Harry Potter nerd!</div>

Last year when I got home from camp, Aunt Cindy, Paje, Sky and Jazzy came to visit my family. I had never met the children and I hadn't seen Aunt Cindy since she got married about 16 years before. It was so fun to see them. I told them about camp and they started planning a trip out west. I was so happy to see them two days before camp. I got to see Uncle John for the first time since their wedding and I met three cousins I hadn't met before. I enjoyed them so much at camp! Aunt Cindy helped in all of my morning classes. Sky and Jazzy were in three of my classes. Nic and Logan would occasionally help/wrestle in my classroom. Ali played her clarinet for my students. And Paje always let me have a bit of her cookie or cupcake that she had decorated in her cake decorating class! Uncle John was so patient at the camp ground as he was the only one that didn't attend classes. Whenever he was around though, he was super helpful to me. <br />
After a week at camp, Aunt Cindy and Uncle John came to Utah to visit my family. We had a lot of fun with them while they were here. We went up to Payson Lakes, went and saw <i>Brave</i>, and the kids came over and Logan mowed my lawn. Don't worry, they got snow cones as payment! I didn't get many pictures of them and I am so bummed I didn't. Paje took my camera while we were at the lake. These are pretty much the only pictures I have so enjoy! I hope to see this side of the family soon! I loved having them here!<br />

It always comes so fast and I always hate to see it go. It is the best job in the world. My only wish is that I could do it for multiple weeks in the summer. This year was especially great because of all the family that got to be there. I had so much help this year, at times I didn't know what to have all of them do! I felt that my crafts were better this year and I was much better with my classroom management. (Do the other teachers at camp even pay attention to this or is it just the teacher in me?) <br />

Late in the night we went to pick up Michele and Anna from the airport. I sawAnna first, her big blue eyes roaming the airport in her little backpack. I would like to think she remembered me because she smiled a lot for me. The next day we headed out for Evanston. We got there in the early afternoon. The fun ensued. We went to the school were camp was being held and dropped off all my supplies, we created a completely dark room for Anna to sleep in by stuffing the window with paper towel rolls and clothes from the costume box (which might not have been the best idea because we couldn't use any of those paper towels all week, we had to go buy them because we couldn't mess up the window treatment!) and made dinner! Saturday we went shopping, made ice-cream, watched movies, colored rice, and played with Anna. It was so fun! <br />

Sunday was another busy day of making sure we were ready for camp. We had a staff meeting that night for camp. We meet all of the teachers that would be at camp which is always fun. The man that came to teach piano was so funny. He grew up in Lithuania and told us if we wanted to learn about communism, he was an expert! He needed a ride from the camp meeting to his host families house. I had brought my car over, which for those that know where I was staying you know that this is absolutely ridiculous because I was staying at a house that is three houses away from the school! So I offered to take the piano teacher home. He gave me the worst directions and on the way through the crazy maze of getting home, we passed Michele out talking a walk around the block. When I finally got home, Michele attacked me because she wanted to know who the boy in my car was. She couldn't believe how fast I had moved. Little did she know that this man is married with two children! HA! It was a running joke all week.<br />
My classes were so great this year. My little kid classes were Animal Art, Comte's Corner, and Making Musical Instruments. They were good but I know that I can improve for next year. Some improvements I want to make are: be more free with my crafts (little ones don't understand too many directions), ask for more help with my really little kids, try the crafts to see how long they take, and be prepared for extra time. One of my favorite moments in my little kid classes was one little girl named Helena. She was so cute and became my little friend! <br />

My older kid classes were fabulous! First, my Duck Tape Class was the BOMB. For the most part my students were super creative and willing to try. And that's what made it so successful. On Tuesday I gave my students the challenge to make a hat out of Duct Tape. The boys in the class were super excited. At the end of class we all decided that we needed to do a fashion show in the talent show. My students were asked to make anything the could wear and bring it to show off. Thursday's talent show was so great in so many ways. But the night ended with some pretty creative kids and their duct tape creations! One boy in my class and his cousin were way into Avatar. Not the movie but the little animated cartoon. It really is the best! I am also a little obsessed with it, so when these students knew what it was I was way excited. On Wednesday they decided to make Davatar: The Last Duct Bender costumes. It was awesome. Next years improvements: a lot more Duct Tape!<br />

One class that I redid from last year was science! Of course I changed the experiments we tried. The class was more successful than last year. We made bouncy balls, slime, galaxy playdough, and lava lamps. The kids loved it all! None of them could tell me what their favorite thing to do was. This is a must for next year. If anyone has suggestion, please leave a comment about cool projects you know of!</div>

The last class I did for the older kids was recycled jewelry which went really well, I just didn't have very many students in it! The girls loved painting with nail polish, making pop top bracelets, and making beads from magazines. Some of the girls even went the extra mile and made things at home to bring in. It was so fun to be with a small group of students! I got to know each one so well!</div>

Thursday night was awesome. It was the talent show. As I said previously, my Duct Tape class ended the show in style. But another highlight of the night was Marley and I's debut dancing expedition. It was EPIC. We are already planning an encore for next year, I hope this entices some of you to come to camp next year. I want to give a shout out to Marley: It wouldn't have been as cute without my little ladybug! Thanks for being brave and for being concerned about the jar lids that fell off of my ears!</div>

Summer has been great! I know it isn't over but I wanted to stop and reflect on the good that has come so far. In particular I wanted to write about one special day that changed my perspective on life. Oh, the joy that children can bring. They teach me so much! A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege to watch five beautiful children for a day. These children hold a special place in my heart. And so does the family that they belong to. I am so happy that the family is willing to share them with me. The circumstances were unique and the timing was perfect (the stress of life was getting to me and I needed a day to relax). These children reminded me to laugh through the hard times and be grateful for what you do have. I was also given hope for the future that children can be raised in the ways that they should go. They can be taught manners and how to be nice to one another. These parents are letting their children use and create with their imaginations which is so nice to see. I was so grateful for the hugs, the thank you's, the "I love you's, and the boogers that were wiped on me. I was so happy to see these little minds work. Thanks to the Rhoades family for letting me use their children as guinea pigs for Slime and Elephant Toothpaste. And thanks goes out to the Rhoades children for letting me have one of the best days of my summer! </div>All the good...http://www.blogger.com/profile/17925044407439427783noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9033199509637524361.post-76787194132435029092012-07-13T10:21:00.001-07:002012-07-13T10:21:03.927-07:00Arizona TripIt happened so fast and the time was well spent!
